4D meat? No thanks.

Become aware of what you are feeding your pet

As people are becoming increasingly aware of where their food is coming from and care more about buying sustainably sourced products (from furniture to produce), it’s hard to believe that 4D meat can still be legally used in commercial pet food. If you’re not aware, those four Ds stand for dead, diseased, dying or destroyed – not exactly inspiring or appetizing. And that’s just for starters. In order to ensure 4D meat is not used in products destined for humans, it must be denatured. This means that charcoal, coloring or other approved agents are added to ensure it can’t be mistaken for human-grade meat. After all this, it is shipped off to be dried, processed and used in many brands of kibble on the market today. It’s a sad fact that many owners remain completely unaware of what is really in the bowl of kibble they give their pet. And we wonder why so many dogs and cats experience digestive problems, allergies and other ailments.

At Hearty Apetite, we treat our pets like members of our family. We also believe in a direct link between the quality of the food we eat and the state of our wellbeing. We wouldn’t give our human family members denatured meat and we don’t think our animals – or any animals for that matter – deserve it either. Do you?

We love to see all animals leading happy and healthy lives, whether they are our pets or not. That’s why we’re committed to only selling pet food made with organic, free-range and ethically sourced meat. We hope that before long, the use of 4D meat in pet food will be a thing of the past. In the meantime, we’ll keep giving our animals the best chance of living long and happy lives through tasty, high-quality food, including the occasional treat, of course!
