Pala’s innovative, sterile, closed loop air-drying process extracts moisture from the raw ingredients gently without breaking down the proteins and enzymes. The drying process takes up to 24 hours at low temperatures. This gives Pala its unique dry-to-touch texture while retaining freshness at room temperatures. Pala does not need to be refrigerated or frozen, and can be fed directly to pets without any preparation.

How is Pala made?

Pala’s small batch production process is designed to preserve the amazing qualities of the raw ingredients without any nutrition loss.

They start by accurately measuring the individual ingredients according to their recipes and batch sizes. Every kilogram of Pala uses about 3 kilograms of raw ingredients. The ingredients are then thoroughly mixed and ground.

The ground mixture is then placed in sterile drying chambers where it is gently air-dried at low temperatures over a long period, until the ideal moisture levels are achieved. This gentle process preserves the ingredients without breaking down the proteins, enzymes and amino acids. Once the mixture is dry, it is cut into the distinct Pala shapes and packed immediately to preserve freshness.

Air-dried, freeze-dried and dehydrated food are exceptional shelf-stable alternatives to raw cat and dog food. Dehydration is one of the oldest and most efficient forms of food preservation. Drying at low temperatures preserves more of a food’s vital nutrients while maintaining its natural colour and taste while eliminating the need for artificial additives or excessive processing. It’s a difference you can see and smell. Air-Dried and Freeze-Dried food can be used as a complete & balanced meal, a meal mixer, or even a treat.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AIR-DRIED, DEHYDRATED AND FREEZE-DRIED FOOD?

Air-Dried Food: Air-dried food is crafted by slowly drying raw ingredients using only air. This gentle method preserves a high level of nutrients, resulting in a healthy, shelf-stable product.

Dehydrated Food: Natural dehydrated food is created by removing water from raw ingredients through a low-heat cooking process. Though similar to air-dried food, it may have slightly fewer nutrients.

Freeze-Dried Food: Freeze-dried food undergoes a 3-step process to remove water from raw or cooked ingredients. This method preserves more nutrients than dehydration or air-drying, albeit at a higher cost. Consequently, freeze-dried options typically carry a higher price tag compared to air-dried or dehydrated varieties.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT AIR-DRIED OR FREEZE-DRIED FOOD

When selecting air-dried or freeze-dried food, it’s essential to prioritize quality and suitability for your pet’s specific needs. Look for products made with natural ingredients, free from artificial preservatives, fillers, and additives. Additionally, consider your pet’s age, dietary preferences, and any existing health conditions when choosing a recipe.

The unique blend of ingredients and preparation processes offer an alternative from your typical pet kibble filled with corn meal and by-products. Here are a few of the top benefits to Pala’s air-dried and MUSH’s freeze-dried food:

  • Quality Ingredients: Both air-dried and freeze-dried foods feature high-quality, natural ingredients sourced from reputable producers. From Finnish human-grade meats to locally grown fruits and vegetables, these foods offer a wholesome diet that supports your pet’s overall health.
  • Nutrient Retention: The gentle preservation process of air drying and freeze drying ensures that vital nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, and amino acids are retained, providing your pet with a nourishing and balanced meal.
  • Minimally Processed: Unlike traditional kibble filled with fillers and by-products, air-dried and freeze-dried food undergo minimal processing. This helps maintain the integrity of the ingredients while offering a closer-to-raw diet that cats and dogs instinctively crave.
  • Convenience: Enjoy the ease of serving air-dried food straight from the bag as is, while freeze-dried simply requires the addition of water. Their shelf-stable quality ensures unmatched convenience, perfect for travel or situations without refrigeration options.
  • Digestibility: Both air-dried and freeze-dried food are easier for cats and dogs to digest compared to highly processed kibble. This can reduce the risk of digestive issues and promote better nutrient absorption, benefiting pets of all ages and breeds.
  • Suitable For Pets of All Ages: Both air-dried and freeze-dried foods are appropriate for cats and dogs of all life stages, from puppies and kittens to adults and seniors. They are easy to digest and beneficial for pets with sensitive stomachs or digestive concerns. Pala’s air-dried dog food is suitable for dogs of all ages and can be fed over an extended period. MUSH’s freeze-dried food is appropriate for kittens, puppies, adults and seniors over their lifetime but should only be fed to puppies for brief periods.

BENEFITS OF A RAW AND/OR AIR-DRIED & FREEZE-DRIED DIET

  • Healthy skin and coat – Many pets are allergic to grains, which can lead to pathologic skin conditions. A raw natural diet provides allergy relief, reduction and/or eradication.
  • Cleaner, whiter and stronger teeth – Many dry foods leave a starchy coating on the teeth, which promotes plaque. Feeding a raw diet maintains healthier teeth and gums as well as fresher breath.
  • Stools – Harder, smaller, less smelly stools that are easier to scoop up from the little box or pick up in the garden. Less smelly farts.
  • Decreased litter box odor – Many pet foods include protein that is indigestible for cats (and dogs), which leads to an undesirable odor at the litter box.
  • Natural weight control – Cats and dogs are healthiest on a high protein, low carbohydrate diet.
  • A stronger immune system, more energy and stamina – Pet’s digestive systems are designed to ingest raw meat and are healthiest eating what Nature intended.

CHANGES TO EXPECT

  • After a full transition to a raw diet, pets will typically drink less water. In the wild they get most of their water from their prey. A raw meat diet naturally contains more moisture than dry or canned food, so your cat or dog may be less thirsty, yet be getting plenty of water.
  • There will likely be a change in the size, odour, and color of the pet’s faeces. They will stink less! They may also be somewhat harder and dryer and be colored shades of dark and light brown. Much of the crude protein and crude fiber in most commercial dry and canned pet foods is not digestible and hence contributes to a higher stool volume. Along with the assurance of knowing that all the food your beloved pooch or feline is ingesting, is actually being digested, the less stinky poops are certainly a nice bonus!
  • Overweight Cats and Dogs tend to lose weight. However, weight loss must be closely monitored. Rapid weight loss can lead to serious health problems. Make sure you transition your pet to a raw diet gradually and seek professional advice, especially when transitioning an animal with chronic health issues.
  • Lethargic Pets begin feeling more energised, start to play more and may even exhibit hunting behaviour. Dogs and cats are healthiest when fed a high protein, low carbohydrate diet. When they aren’t experiencing the metabolic highs and lows associated with high carbohydrate intake from grains, typically found in kibble, they will use protein as their energy source, just as they were designed by nature to do. This tends to provide more sustained energy throughout the day and reduces the need to “graze”.
  • Allergies tend to clear up, which may be a result of less exposure to potential food allergens. Many pets have allergies to grains that can range from very mild to severe. These allergies can manifest on the skin, can affect digestion, and also contribute to runny eyes & nose and itchy ears or paws. The reduction in allergic symptoms may be a result of not only a reduced exposure to allergens from a higher food quality, but also from a stronger immune system. The more nutritious the food, the stronger the immune system will be.
  • Fur becomes incredibly soft and shedding is reduced. This is typically one of the initial benefits observed after changing to a raw diet and is a direct result of better nutrition. The humans in the household also stand to gain a lot as well, when switching their pets to raw, as they are less likely to suffer allergic reactions due to the reduction of dander.
